HDB registered renovation contractors (DRC): how to check one

Every renovation in an HDB flat must be done by a contractor on HDB’s Directory of Renovation Contractors. Here’s what that listing means and how to check a contractor before you sign.

Updated 26 October 2026

In short: HDB requires flat owners to use contractors listed in its Directory of Renovation Contractors (DRC). Check the contractor on HDB's official DRC page before signing. A listing means the firm may do HDB renovation work; it is not HDB's guarantee of quality, and contractors can be delisted for demerit points.

What the DRC is

The Directory of Renovation Contractors (DRC) is HDB’s list of contractors allowed to carry out renovation works in HDB flats. Flat owners must engage a DRC-listed contractor, including for works that don’t need a permit.

How to check a contractor

  1. Use HDB’s official page. Search the contractor on HDB’s Directory of Renovation Contractors, not a screenshot or an old advert.
  2. Match the company details. Check that the company name and UEN on the quotation match the listing.
  3. Confirm current status. Listings can change; contractors can be delisted after accumulating demerit points.
  4. Check complaints separately. CaseTrust accreditation and consumer enquiries through CASE are separate checks on a firm’s track record.

Questions to ask before signing

  • Is the company on HDB’s DRC, and is the UEN on the quotation the same?
  • Who applies for the permit, and is that included in the price?
  • Are the workers doing the hacking certified for demolition works?
  • Is debris disposal included, and how is the lift and corridor protected?
  • What’s the payment schedule, and what does the warranty cover?

Condos and commercial units

The DRC applies to HDB flats. Condos follow their management corporation’s renovation rules, and HDB shops and offices have separate tenant guidelines. For commercial units at lease end, see what reinstatement means.
