Where epoxy flooring is used

Epoxy is a resin coating bonded to a concrete floor. It forms a seamless, hard-wearing surface that’s easy to clean, which is why it’s common in:

  • Warehouses, factories and workshops
  • Car parks and garages
  • Shops, showrooms and offices
  • Commercial kitchens and food production areas, with anti-slip finishes
  • Homes: kitchens, balconies and landed-property garages

Types of epoxy floor

Epoxy coating (roller-applied)Light traffic, storerooms, garagesThinner and lower cost; refreshes worn concrete
Self-levelling epoxyShowrooms, offices, clean areasThicker, smooth and glossy finish over an even floor

Heavy-duty or mortar epoxyFactories, forklift routesThickest system for impact and heavy loads

How the work is done

  1. Survey: check the slab, moisture, cracks and how the floor will be used.
  2. Preparation: grind or remove old coatings and tiles, repair cracks and clean the surface. Preparation decides how long the floor lasts.
  3. Primer: seals the concrete and helps the epoxy bond.
  4. Body and top coats: applied to the chosen thickness, with anti-slip aggregate if needed.
  5. Curing: typically light foot traffic after about 24 hours, vehicles after about 3 days, full cure in about a week, depending on the product.

Removing old epoxy or tiles first

If the floor has tiles, vinyl or a failing coating, it needs to come off first. We handle that floor hacking and preparation in the same job.

Epoxy flooring cost

Epoxy is priced per sq ft and depends on the system, the floor area, how much preparation the slab needs, and whether work must be done outside operating hours. Send the floor area, photos and how the space is used on WhatsApp, and we will survey the floor and quote.

With good preparation, a commercial epoxy floor commonly lasts several years. Heavy forklift traffic wears it faster; thicker systems last longer.

It’s possible in some cases, but tile joints and loose tiles often show through or crack the coating. Removing the tiles first usually gives a better result.

Often yes for smaller areas. Larger areas can be phased so that part of the space stays in use.

A glossy finish can be slippery when wet. An anti-slip top coat is recommended for kitchens, wet areas and ramps.
