Metallic epoxy flooring in Singapore

Metallic epoxy gives a seamless floor with a marbled, pearl-like depth. It suits showrooms, retail and homes, but it needs a sound slab and some care to keep it looking good.

Updated 26 October 2026

In short: Metallic epoxy is a decorative epoxy floor with metallic pigments worked into a clear layer, giving a seamless marbled look. It suits showrooms, retail and homes, sits at the upper end of the S$4–S$12 per sq ft epoxy range, and needs a level slab, a protective top coat and anti-slip in wet areas.

What metallic epoxy is

Metallic epoxy is a decorative epoxy system: a coloured base coat, a clear epoxy layer mixed with metallic pigments that’s moved around while wet to create flowing patterns, and a protective top coat. No two floors look the same.

Where it works well

  • Retail shops, showrooms and galleries that want a statement floor
  • Cafés and offices with moderate foot traffic
  • Living areas and feature rooms in condos and landed homes
  • Car showrooms and private garages

It’s less suited to heavy industrial use, forklift routes or wet areas without an anti-slip finish. For those, see warehouse epoxy flooring.

How it's laid

  1. Surface preparation: grinding, crack repair and cleaning. The slab must be level, because every dip shows through.
  2. Primer: seals the concrete and helps the system bond.
  3. Base coat: a solid colour that sets the overall tone.
  4. Metallic layer: clear epoxy with metallic pigment, worked by hand to create the pattern.
  5. Top coat: a clear protective layer; satin or matt reduces visible scratches.

Expect about two to four days on site including curing, depending on the area and product.

Cost

Singapore guides put installed epoxy at roughly S$4 to S$12 per sq ft. Metallic and other decorative systems sit at the upper end because of the extra layers and hand finishing. Removing existing tiles adds to the cost. See the epoxy flooring price guide.

Looking after a metallic floor

  • Use felt pads under furniture and doormats at entrances to limit scratches.
  • Sweep or vacuum grit regularly, then mop with a pH-neutral cleaner.
  • Avoid harsh solvents and abrasive pads.
  • A fresh top coat can restore the shine after years of wear.

It can be used in dry areas as a coating within HDB’s floor-finish rules. Check with your HDB-registered contractor before starting, and avoid wet areas without an anti-slip finish.

The glossy finish can be slippery when wet. A textured or matt top coat helps in areas that get wet.

With good preparation and care it commonly lasts several years; a new top coat can refresh the surface.

Sometimes, but grout lines and loose tiles can show through or crack the coating. Removing the tiles usually gives a better result.
